The repertoire of the BILLINGTON AND GONZALEZ DUO consists mainly of classical music ranging from transcriptions of Elizabethan music for recorder and lute to original compositions of twentieth-century music for flute and guitar. Included in the repertoire are the standard flute and guitar works of guitar virtuoso Mauro Giuliani and transcriptions of many lighter classical pieces easily recognizable by lovers of classical music. Formed in the fall of 1988, the BILLINGTON AND GONZALEZ DUO frequently performs recitals throughout the South Florida area.

Canadian-born flutist Dr. Robert David Billington earned his BA degree from Northern Michigan University, his MM degree majoring in flute performance from Western Michigan University, and his DMA degree in flute performance from the University of Miami. He has done post-graduate work at Ball State University and at the University of Illinois. Currently, Dr. Billington is a free-lance flutist in the South Florida area. He has taught at the University of Miami, Boise State University, the University of Illinois, the University of Louisville, the Louisville Academy of Music, and Ball State University. His collegiate flute teachers have included Dr. Elda Tate (Northern Michigan University), Dr. Charles Osborne (Western Michigan University), and Eugene Johnson (University of Miami). Dr. Billington has also studied privately with Bernard Goldberg, Donald Peck, Robert Aitken, James Pellerite, and Francis Fuge. In addition to having performed with numerous orchestras in the United States and at festivals in Europe, Mr. Billington has presented master classes in Trinidad, and has appeared as a soloist on Trinidad and Tobago Television.

Born in New York City, Dr. Rene Gonzalez, guitarist, moved to Miami at an early age and earned his BM, his MM, and his DMA degrees majoring in guitar performance from the University of Miami. In 1981 he joined his mentor, guitar virtuoso Juan Mercadal, on the faculty of the UM. Dr. Gonzalez is currently an associate professor at the University of Miami and is the founder and director of the Miami International Guitar Festival. As a member of the Ruck Guitar Ensemble, Dr. Gonzalez toured Central America through the auspices of the United States Information Agency. He has performed solo and chamber recitals throughout the Southeastern United States and has performed concerts at Guitar Festivals in Europe and the Americas.
